Technology Applications Partnership with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey

In 2000, TADERA partnered with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) to develop their Computerized Airport Log System (CALS). CALS was utilized by the operations departments at all three Port Authority Airports (John F. Kennedy International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport, and LaGuardia for use by the Operations Department of the three Port Authority airports. CALS documents all airport inspections, manages the Part 139 compliance process, documents calls for service, issues NOTAMs, and stores operational and activity data for the facilities. The program is used 24/7/365, and serves as the official and legal log of activities occurring at the airports. CALS also includes a Geographic Information System (GIS) data application that maps the location of any activity tracked in the system. Users can insert and manipulate layers of information, render maps on data elements in any layer, and query data within the GIS module.

The original application was developed and installed in 2001. Over the years, the product has evolved from a client server application to a web base solution. Each airport uses the system as the primary FAR Part 139 inspection and reporting tool for compliance. In addition each airport uses the application in multiple departments for electronic recordkeeping. TADERA has provided ongoing support and developed new modules to continue meeting PANYNJ’s needs. New features include a Since that time TADERA has provided support and recently upgraded the system to include a Wildlife Reporting Module and Global Positioning capabilities. The GIS Mapping Module includes the following:

  • Generate maps of wildlife event locations and add location points.
  • Integrate the USB/Bluetooth Global Positioning system (GPS) within CALS mapping module utilizing Google Maps as the Mapping feature.
  • Generate a historical map that is saved to CALS which identifies points saved related to wildlife events.
  • Generate a summary map showing wildlife event point(s) saved during a period of time.

Additional enhancements to CALS have also included the following:

ASOCS Mobile Inspector: This mobile, GIS focused, device independent application provides a robust method to enhance the collection of data in the field on-line (network connected) or off-line. The application uses a geographical information system (GIS) method of data entry which concentrates on airfield assets, discrepancies and inspection findings. With ASOCS Mobile, airfield inspectors can view airport assets in a GPS location-sensitive manner, and issue work requests to Airfield maintenance regarding any discrepancies which may need to be addressed.

Itinerant Aircraft Billing System (IABS): TADERA developed a new billing system which is used by the operations staff at Newark’s Liberty International Airport (EWR) to manage itinerant aircraft activity and generate billing transactions. This feeds into the Port Authority’s SAP system for revenue recognition and cash management. In addition to processing transactions for itinerant customers, the invoicing system is the source for creating customer records with the customer name and address and aircraft tail numbers. TADERA’s AirportIQ Business & Revenue Manager (ABRM) serves as the core of the IABS.

Development of ASOCS: PANYNJ were the first users of the ASOCS system starting in January of 2001.The Wildlife Unit uses the application solely for tracking the Authority’s wildlife program. PANYNJ continuously requests new features and functionality added to the application to adjust for changing needs.
