Safety Management Module: The Information Needed to Identify and Respond to Risks, Before They Become Hazards
The Safety Management module offers a flexible process that allows airport and transit system staff, tenants, and the public to work together to report and resolve safety issues, such as slip/fall or other medical incidents, safety hazards found from inspections and audits, and other accidents, incidents, and occurrences. Users can collect key safety management data, including type of safety issue, location, geolocation, and photos/videos, identify safety trends, and demonstrate proactive or mitigation actions being taken.
The Safety Management module will guide you in managing safety risk using a process that is in use by safety and risk managers at several transit systems and follows FTA regulatory requirements, including those found in 49 CFR Part 673, the Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan. This information is made available in reports and a management dashboard that provide useful charts and summaries of safety hazards and risks, along with the complete trail of reporting and risk assessment for each reported issue.
Anonymously Report Safety Hazards and Incidents
Employees and contractors can confidentially report safety hazards from a smartphone or tablet in just a few minutes. Users can report their current location or pin it on a map, and attach pictures and videos, including those taken directly from the camera on a tablet or smartphone, as supporting data for safety management review.
Users who report safety issues will receive an email receipt, as well as an email notification when the issue is resolved.
Comprehensive Data Allows for Trend Analysis and Proactive Risk Mitigation
With each reported safety issue, users can describe the hazard or incident, and then transit system staff can analyze and assess the risk of those hazards using a risk matrix, and develop a mitigation plan to control and reduce the risk.
New safety issue reports are triaged and reviewed in the Safety Risk Management module, where they are assigned for further investigation and processed to completion. Multiple reports can be linked to one safety event, and reports and events can be linked to a location on a GIS map. This allows users to see if multiple risk factors caused a safety event, or exist in a single area.
Through the Safety Risk Management module, safety and operations staff can use a clickable risk matrix to visualize the impact of different risk mitigation strategies on people, operations, assets, reputation, etc. Through the Residual Risk Matrix, staff can also perform a second risk assessment to determine how the risk will be lowered when mitigation strategies are implemented.
Integrate with Safety and Compliance Module to Submit Work Orders
When the SMS review gets to mitigation, your safety team can issue work orders to the maintenance team. Work orders can be tracked to completion without leaving the SMS module, and operations, safety, security, and maintenance personnel can all access the same data.
Data Collection Leads to Comprehensive Reporting and Proactive Safety Management
Transit systems can access a wealth of information by allowing various stakeholders, including employees, contractors, tenants, and more, to report safety incidents, risks, and hazards. This data flows to the SMS dashboard, through which leaders can access a snapshot of safety data, showing that the you’re taking a proactive approach to safety culture and operational safety. Reports include, but are not limited to:
- Safety data over time
- A count of issues reported daily, weekly, or monthly
- Common locations with safety issues
- Safety hazards and contributing factors
- Inspection results
- Corrective action summaries
